The Violin Academy was established in 1998 by Lee Marais with one goal in mind - to teach the love of violin playing. She is one of the highest qualified Suzuki teachers in the country, having completed several years of study with Suzuki trainers Christophe Bossuat and Karen Kimmett in South Africa as well as France.

The studio is centrally located in Parkview, Johannesburg and lessons are conducted six days a week. Every student takes part in two lessons each week - a private lesson, as well as a group lesson with about ten other violinists. The groups are structured in such a way that players within a certain range of abilities are put together.

We encourage a parent or caregiver to attend the child's private lesson, in order to assist the child with practice sessions at home. We believe parents play a vital role in the young player's musical journey.

The Violin Academy takes part in eisteddfodau, national music competitions, concerto festivals with leading orchestras, as well as an annual concert held in the last part of the year.
